Cybermonk, as a blog, has the simple goal of evoking the mood I feel sometimes when walking alone in the mountains that border the Santa Clara Valley, where I grew up. The warmth of summer sunlight filtered through the low canopy of coast live oak; the wist of being born too late to join the homebrew computer club; the reluctant observation that my elapsed life has been largely devoted to the well-being of electromechanical automatons; occasionally wondering if I'll live to talk to an artificial superintelligence (or if anybody will).

The name came about because it occurred to me that programmers have the designated societal function of communicating with powerful nonhuman entities, i.e. we’re priests or monks.
