congratulations on the new job - having worked alone on my projects for the past year while unemployed, i really relate to the feeling of isolation :’)

did you find communities to be a part of during your period of relative solitude ?

I made a lot of friends in general but the project itself has always been solitary. not many people are interested in that stuff

Sid! Congratulations, even though two months belated! This is great to know, and I wish your research turns out promising for the lab. Very very happy for you!

Is it too rudimentary to think that evolution is brute force in nature and just the selections that happen to conform to mathematically optimal solutions tend to live on?

Anyway, Congratulations! I will follow your progress closely.

Well that kind of does not explain the soap film I just realized.

Yup, and it also doesn't explain how life originated.

I was also wondering along the lines of what drives evolution, the genetic knowledge transfer, like what is the underlying, fundamental “thing” that drives species to survive and reproduce and life as a whole to proceed and move.

The “thing” which i like to call “life force” the underlying prevailing force behind everything that we call consciousness and/or life.

optimization is one of the key principles here, like you mentioned “evolution builds elaborate mathematical solutions in response to physical constraints”

But what is our understanding of intelligence and where does it fit with the reality of intelligence and/or consciousness?

David Deutsch mentioned in the beginning of infinity that intelligence is the ability to create new knowledge.

As you question “Might intelligence be not the stuff between our ears but the vast process that created us all?”, I believe intelligence falls under as a subset of a prevailing life force, I also think consciousness is not the absolute whole and the main thing, hence it also falls under the prevailing life force.

As we move further with AI we’ll uncover what intelligence exactly is.

The models that we have now, performs better than majority of humans, and it seems this models are nowhere near what intelligence actually is, but simply an efficient method to organize, parse and output knowledge(data) and gives no creative ability.

The test of creative ability for these models will be to go on and create new knowledge in physics or mathematics, or lets say “systems” like how people operate as masses → governance, democracy, free markets something along those lines.

The more we progress in AI, we are forced to ask ourselves what we do and why, may be somewhere people simply lost touch and forget about the life force as majority of people are stuck in a rut of one kind or another.

Maybe people like Einstein, Feynman, Neumann, Darwin, Buddha (and other remarkably extraordinary people which I got lost from my feeble memory at the moment) where not exceptions but the true potential of a human and others tend to get lost from the path of true potential.

ps: the last para is absolutely beautiful and inspiring, thank you!

congrats for officially being a scientist!!
