For what it's worth, I don't think it's that rare so I believe you're still perfectly marriageable even there. Though you would definitely have a much easier time in Japan. (We counted 42 dogs there over 18 days in 4 different cities.)
I have tracked a huge downtrend in my love toward animals since I was a kid. I still have empathy for them, but... like, back then I would have hated you and given the possibility, might have even attempted to seriously harm you. But now I just feel nothing in response to your words.
Why? We are illogical worlds. Also: the feeling has watered down, but in my childhood I was eager to bring death on those who harm animals, and generally loved them more than humans. That has changed, but some traces of that perversion remain, and likely will remain with me forever. I still would love you to refrain from e.g. squishing bugs or hitting gods just for the sake of it, even more so in my presence. Fine print: absolutely reasonable to do that in self-defense, or to clear the house of dangerous insects or pests, and I will even join you if that's the case.
